Case Study: Innovative Retail Kiosk for Skully

Introduction

Skully, an innovative startup originally launched on Indiegogo, set out to revolutionize motorcycle safety with their advanced AR-1 helmet. To complement this cutting-edge product, the company sought a unique retail experience. As part of their vision, Armodilo Display Solutions was tasked with designing a customized tablet kiosk to showcase the AR-1 helmet in retail environments.

The Challenge

Skully’s goal was to create a visually striking and functional retail kiosk that would not only display their helmet but also incorporate a tablet-based solution to engage customers. The design needed to maintain the sleek, futuristic aesthetic of the AR-1 helmet while offering practicality for in-store use. With this in mind, Skully turned to Armodilo to bring their vision to life.

Solution

In response to Skully’s needs, Armodilo designed a custom AURA kiosk that incorporated a unique helmet holder integrated into the top of the stand. The holder was crafted from a clear, solid bent piece of anodized aluminum, perfectly shaped to cradle the helmet while retaining the modern, minimalist aesthetic of the AURA freestanding iPad kiosk. The design seamlessly showcased the AR-1 helmet, giving it prominence in the store while providing a dynamic, interactive digital experience for customers through the iPad interface.

In addition to the freestanding kiosk, Armodilo also developed a desktop design for smaller retail spaces. However, this design was never brought to production.

Outcome

While Skully’s AR-1 helmet, unfortunately, did not reach full production, the design of the custom tablet kiosk remains a testament to the innovation behind both the helmet and the kiosk. The collaboration between Armodilo and Skully resulted in a stunning, functional retail display that effectively captured the essence of the brand and the technology behind the helmet.

Note on Product Evolution

Since the AURA kiosk was developed, Armodilo has introduced a new model, the Alur tablet stand, which has since replaced the AURA. The Alur builds upon the design principles of the AURA, offering enhanced versatility and durability, making it an ideal solution for a variety of retail environments.

Conclusion

While Skully’s journey was ultimately cut short, the design of the AR-1 helmet and the custom Armodilo kiosk still stand as examples of innovation in both product design and retail technology. The collaboration remains a proud moment for Armodilo, showcasing our ability to adapt our solutions to fit unique and forward-thinking projects.
